Victoria Women’s Transition House (VWTH) is looking for a casual, on-call House Manager.


We are a non-profit charity, providing emergency shelter, counselling and support services for women of all ages, with or without children, fleeing from intimate partner violence and abuse. We are a vibrant, collaborative community looking for exceptional people to help us grow as we work towards our mission of ending intimate partner violence.

 

Job Summary

Oversees day-to-day operations of the physical plant of the Shelter.  Ensures that the Shelter is well maintained, clean and operating according to safety and health standards.  Ensures that food preparation is sufficient, nutritious, and meets health and safety standards.


 KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    1. Responsible for purchase, delivery and monitoring and maintaining inventory of supplies including management of goods donations.
    2. Maintains inventory and ensures regular maintenance and replacement schedules are met.
    3. Plans and oversees all maintenance and repair projects for building and ground.  Liasises with property management firm, contractors, suppliers and independent workers.
    4. Facilitates weekly resident meeting to coordinate household chores for residents, ensures that preparation of meals is in compliance with safe food handling, health and safety standards
    5. Identifies in-house volunteer requirements and in consultation with the Volunteer Coordinator, plans, coordinates and oversees day-to-day volunteer activities.
    6. Provides day-to-day task assignment and oversight to the Housekeeper. 
    7. Conducts annual Building Safety Inspection and other routine safety and security procedures.  Updates staff and volunteers on issues of fire and general health and safety.  In partnership with the Health and Safety Committee, provides annual fire safety and earthquake training

     

    QUALIFICATIONS

    At least one year facilities management experience.  Certificates in Food Safe I and II.

     

    JOB SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Excellent  organization and time management skills. 
    • Facility with computers, including basic word processing simple spreadsheet, email.

     

    ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

    This position requires interacting with clients who may be in crisis.  Ability to multi-task efficiently and deal with facility-related emergencies is an ongoing expectation of this position.
